Rumor has it that the Brewers are very interested in players including Bay, Duke, and Gorzelanny. What is the possibility that any of these stars could be traded within the division to the Brewers?

I'm not like your typical moron GM that won't trade good players within the division. I'm going to trade guys to whatever team offers me the quality talent, within the division or not. If I trade a good player who excels with his new team, I won't complain about having to face him a bunch over the course of the season. I'll be happy for him, and be glad that he netted me some good talent.

With star hitter Jason Bay now rumored to be out the door pending league approval, who do you expect to step up as the leader of the offense?

My offense isn't going to have a leader, to be honest. We expect some growing pains our first few seasons as our young players grow and enhance their skills. In a few years, we will have quite a potent offense, probably led by Daric Barton, Neil Walker, and Andrew McCutchen.
Our pitching will keep us in games with guys like Harden, Duke, Snell, Gorzelanny, and Lincoln.

With Bay offically wearing Gold and Green, do you regret the trade that you did?

With Bay offically wearing Gold and Green, do you regret the trade that you did? Not at all. While Bay is quite an offensive force, we felt that Rich Harden, who at 25 is already a top 10 pitcher in the league, can blossom into one of, if not the best pitcher in the league. The pairing of Harden and Duke will be silencing bats for years to come.

Do you have any expectations whatsoever coming into the season for your 2007 playoff chances?

Our playoff chances are slim, especially considering the division we're playing in. However, we don't expect to contend for a playoff spot. We are aware that we have a young team, and we'll be happy to see that young talent mature and enhance their skills, regardless of what record we finish with.
In 2009, we expect to be considered for the best team in the league.

With the Brewers and Cubs building around their respective young nuclues and getting strong by the day, Do you think you have what it takes in house to over take either? If not will you break up part of the rotation to go get it or will you go for it via free agency? Also do you think your losing culture the past few seasons will make free agents less likely to come to Pittsburgh?

What do you plan to do this offseason to get your team up to par with the Cubs, Brewers, and Cardinals?
