what if say i sign a rod
then middle of april my best starter goes down
by best trading piece is a rod and i have a young guy ready to step in and play so i trade a rod for a starter.
if we put this rule in, then i have to wait a month and half without a true number 1.

injuries are part of a game, that doesnt really have anything to do with the issue

i voted no just for the simple reason that this has the potential to allow potential abusers to monopolize the FA...which is the opposite reason for which it exists. A simple example can be that a team with a lot of money signs all these FA by overpaying becuase they have the money and later trading them off for prospects, etc. This is simply unfair and goes against the principle of going after FA because of a certain hole on your team.

While you guys are all making valid points, which I do in fact agree with now, here's the issue: We didn't have this rule to start with. If this rule does take effect, it should in '09. While this does benefit me, it's not why I am saying this. I'm saying this so that way it is fair. I spent the money on Roberts to trade him. While he's a good ballplayer and being stuck with him wouldn't be a terrible thing, we can't institute a rule in the middle of FA signings that reflects FA. My vote is you should say yeah, but if it is changed to 6 months, make it take effect in '09.

I assumed we were voting to make it happen next year. Since guys were already signed, its not really fair to create the rule right now.

Trading should not be allowed til June 1st. Trade and sign is bullshit and it shouldnt be allowed. That simply helps the big market teams even more.
If injuries happen deal with it. Teams have to deal with it in real life. Deal with it now. I really cant believe this is even an issue.

Number one reason is what about the teams that really wanted him and you just f**ked them all over. Number two you got to see what everyones offer was so, and i am not saying you did this, but you knew what it would take to get him so you very easily could have just outbid everyone so then you can trade him. I had zero payroll to stock myself up with money for the reason of getting some FAs. Now they all went for rediculous amounts of money that I was happy to see thinking that the team would be stuck with them and now they can trade them? If this rule actually passes it will be a terrible terrible thing for this league.

Yes this rule wasn't stated ahead of time, but I'm pretty sure most people just thought it was understood that you couldn't do that.
