I’ll be honest about this. I don’t follow basketball much beyond watching the Dallas Mavericks play and following Lebron (since high school). But ever since the Mavericks were knocked out of the playoffs unexpectedly this year I really got sick of basketball, so I haven’t followed the rest of the playoffs or finals much. I won’t be taking the Cavaliers in this series, simply because I have the luxury of knowing they are down 2-0 in the series and knowing that the odds of coming back from down 2-0 in any series is difficult, let alone against a team like the Spurs.
The Spurs are a team that are complete all the way around, as much as it pains me to say so being a Mavs fan. Duncan is the best true post player in the NBA in a lot of ways and there isn’t a player better at doing the post job then Duncan. He can rebound balls, put balls up for points, block shots, do everything any coach would want out of their center. Tony Parker is a very good player at creating plays and has great court vision which creates open shots for his teammates. As said Bruce B. is a great veteran player who is very good on defense and has made/will make it difficult for Lebron to get around him.
The only way the Cavs can come back is by having Lebron be in every play whether that be taking it in for a dunk, shooting a jump shot, or by creating shots for other players whether that be by his prescence or him passing it to teammates who are open. He is my favorite player in the NBA, and a player I have followed since he was a junior to be senior in high school. He has the potential to be the best player in the NBA and one of the best ever, but he won’t get there without a supporting cast behind him, and that won’t be happening this year. And at the end of the day it’s about how many championships you have won. The Spurs are a very good team, but they have gotten a very easy road this year to get their championship. They got a break by the Mavs getting upset early, then by getting the Suns without Amare and Boris for part of the series, and then by getting a Cleveland Cavaliers team that simply is Lebron and an average team.

I am going to SELL the idea of Griffey going to the Braves. He has a no trade clause and will only go to a team that he knows he has a legit shot at the world series. I look for him to go to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. They are looking to add a bat behind Vlad. He would retrn to the AL West where he started his career. The Angels are a piece or 2 away from getting to the World Series. Also the Angels have one of the best farm systems. So they have the resources to go get a bat. But i believe Griffey's outfield mate Adam Dunn will be dealt first. His contract is coming up soon and the Reds want to unload him. The Braves dont really have the resources to give up what Cincy could get from LAA. I am selling Griffey and Jones and Francouer in the same OF. ALthough that would make one hell of an OF.

In baseball, many times it comes down to the question of whether dealing for a player is worth it. So I will ask, is this deal to replace Mr. Andruw Jones? I will SELL the idea of Griffey going to Atlanta. I could understand Dunn going there because he can play 1B, but the Braves need is not OF. The outfielder letting the Braves down is the ever popular, highly overrated IMO Andruw Jones. Matt Diaz and Willie Harris have an average WELL over .330 combined and an OPS much better then Diaz. The Braves don't have the resources to acquire Griffey, and to be honest would be better off trading for a #4 or 5 starter then to be going after another bat. Their offense already ranks right around the top 10 if not in it in batting average and runs. They are only 2.5 games behind New York for the division and are even closer to the wild card lead. If Andruw Jones does come around eventually, then that will be enough to push them into the wild card at least if not the division. As Mariotti said, Dunn will be the first one to go, but I believe that he will be traded to the Dodgers or Padres. Another potential destination could be Houston if they can afford him because Dunn is from Houston and the Astros desperately need some offense ranking near dead last in runs scored. Being only 7.5 games out, if the Astros made a trade for Dunn, then that could potentially push them closer to Milwaukee, and they would be able to resign him.
SELL

I really don't think Griffey will go anywhere just because he has more value to the Reds fan base then a spect or two coming over in a trade. As for Dunn I'd like to see him go to San Diego or something like that. Braves arent going to give up any worthy prospects and nobody else will probably go after him. Angels could be the one AL team that could use his bat but the way they are playing right now its tough to mess with the lineup right now.

As for the Cavs. Living in Cleveland and rooting my Cavs on this is just a plain old bad matchup. Though I think this series is going 6 its just not the Cavs time right now. Hopefully tonight we might see a different starting lineup tonight with Daniel Boobie Gibson in the lineup instead of the struggling Larry Hughes. Looking for the Cavs to win tonight but in a very close game.

You know what, Tony, I'm going to buy this idea of Griffey going to Atlanta. Now, Whitlock, I understand Jones is playing CF right now, but he's on a contract year. By bringing in Griffey, the Braves can then make Jones expendable. If Jones becomes expendable, they can trade him to another team who needs a big time hitter for a big time pitcher. Also, Mariotti, Atlanta is not bad. They're two back in the Wild Card and Division standings. While I don't think they will catch New York, they could catch San Diego, Arizona, and the Dodgers with ease. Griffey coming to Atlanta would keep a suitable bat behind Chipper and a solid glove in centerfield. Griffey coming to Atlanta would be a solid move because with Griffey lurking in Turner Field, a big time pitcher could be on the mound in exchange for Jones. This is a highly beneficial move for Atlanta and for Ken Griffey Jr.

Makes sense, Andruw would certainly net more than they'd have to give for Griffey anyway, +4

This is a no brainer here Tony, of course I am buying the idea of Griffey going to Atlanta. The proposed deal would work out for both sides as you can plainly see. The Reds unload Griffey with his mess of problems, fat contract, and spontaneous injuries...and the Braves get a guy who's hungry to smell the postseason again and try and get a few last shots at a World Series before he has to hang it up.
I'll correct Marriotti here since he obviously doesn't follow baseball in that the Braves outfield as of right now includes Willie Harris in LF, Jones in CF, and Francouer in RF...not Jones, who plays 3B. Furthermore, with Griffey in the fold it gives them another power threat to add to the middle of the lineup to make up for McCann's lack of power thus far in the season and adds another lefty bat to a predominantly righty lineup. The Braves need that extra push that can get them over the hump and have the minor league guys that the Reds would want in return.
Here is some inside information for you Tony, right from Cincinnati Radio Host Maddog...according to his insider sources apparently Griffey has already "agreed" to a deal to send him to Atlanta. What more proof do you want, for both teams this works and allows them to move in their desired direction.

Next TOPIC!
Another real MLB one
The Philthadelphia Phillies have gotten red hot, while the division leading Mets have dropped 5 straight and nine of ten. Buy or Sell the Phillies as a legit contender to win this division when all is said and done, Plashcke?

Mr. Plaske when did Andruw Jones move to 3b? Did I miss something? Last time I checked Atl had 2 Jones and I only mentioned the one. I thought that you would be able to understand which I was talking about.

You know Tony, I'm going to have to sell the Phillies as a contender to win the NL East. The Phillies are on a nice streak as of late, but all teams tend to go on a few throughout the season...but this doesn't prove anything in terms of the Phillies' chances at the NL East crown.
Even though they are winning of late, they have a bevy of problems yet to be addressed with their team. When closer Tom Gordon went on the disabled list, the Phils tapped into their rotation and took Brett Myers and converted him to a closer. When Myers hit the DL, the Phillies main concern was looking for bullpen help. But now that Freddy Garcia is bound to the DL with his bum shoulder and most likely done for 2007, the Phils need help in the rotation. Any baseball mind can tell you that without pitching, it becomes extremely hard to contend for long, and the Phillies will soon start to feel the wear and tear of that feeling. Besides Hamels and possibly Lieber, the Phillies have no one else who is reliable in the rotation... and their trading chances look slim. General manager Pat Gillick's trade options are extremely restricted. Inside sources from ESPN say that the Phillies are getting lots of calls on Victorino, a dynamic player with a small salary. But Victorino is primed to take over center when Rowand likely leaves through free agency this upcoming off season, so the chances of him going anywhere are slim.
So the real contender in the NL East is the New York Mets. Despite their struggles, they still have a two game lead in the tough NL East, and at 36-28 are one game off of having the best record in the league. They also remain the most talented and well-rounded team in the NL. The starting rotation is still overall doing its job and performing better than both the Braves and the Phils. Tom Glavine has been as steady as ever for the club, Oliver Perez and Jorge Sosa have been revelations this year with Perez going back to his Pirate form and Sosa seemingly putting together all the talent he possessed. The Mets offensive woes can be attributed to the fact of injuries to their team. Moises Alou, the opening day starter, never really got a chance to play after getting injured and later Endy Chavez also got hurt. They have ended up having to play with a patchwork OF from day to day in LF and RF recently with Green also having taken a few weeks on the DL. But the Mets have prevailed and are in 1st place still despite all their injury woes. So with that in mind we can attest that the Mets are only going to get better as the season goes on and with Pedro coming back after the All Star Break…things look very good in New York.
