With your stars starting to get up there in age, how are you planning for the future of the Red Sox?

Right now, we're looking to take these stars and trade them. Yeah, trade them. Manny, Schilling, and Clement all must go. Everyone else will stay most likely. Age is somewhat of a concern, but we're here to compete. Period.

As youve stated, Manny Ramierez must go. What exactly will you be looking for in return for Manny. He is a superstar, but getting up there in age and has a massive contract, so how much do you expect for him?

Manny is a great player, but some of the underlying factors concern teams. Here's what it is: Manny is a great player and if you want to win, you'll say screw the contract, and give me this player. I'm expecting equal value for him. Simple as that.

Do you think you overpaid for Mark Kotsay? Two top pitching spects for a 31 year old decent CFer who makes 7.3 million a year is a bit steep, would you say?

No, not at all. Kotsay was in 5th in hits, doubles, and triples last season. He won a Gold Glove last year two. He is a great CF and we feel he is ready to play. Money isn't an issue for us. We unloaded a lot of salary in recent moves and taking on 7.3 million doesn't kill us by any means. As for the spects, their both potential studs. But, with two first round draft choices and 3 starters ranging from 24-28 already, they can either be replaced or just wouldn't have fit. Getting a guy like Kotsay will help us accomplish our goals.

How has the fan reaction been to the loss of Manny? I know there was always a love/hate relationship between the fans and him.

The fans are not necessarily outraged about him being gone, it's the fact we killed the 1-2 punch of Ortiz-Manny. But they understand why. We got a great deal that led to us getting two very good OF's for the price of aging and expensive one. As a result, there are mixed emotions, but the outcry isn't too overwhelming at this point.

You expected equal value for Manny, but clearly didn't get it. How disappointed are you?

Didn't get eqaul value? How can you say that. Wilkerson is a very capable CF and Volquez is a very good prospect with a lot of upside. By trading Volquez then, we got Kotsay. In addition, Manny's 35 and getting rid of the $19 million salary will be such a huge help in signing a big name player this offseason. In the long run, this deal will provide me with a lot of quality players for the price of one.

Do you believe that you overpaid for Kotsay? Or how will he help you more then Volquez and Buchholtz?

As I already, answered no. We got a great CF for 2 studs. Volquez and Bucholz wouldn't have started for me this year and we needed another OF. Although their young and would help us in other seasons, we felt we could replace two players. In addition, their not guaranteed superstars. Kotsay's a solid player and giving up those guys is far from overpaying.
